All boxes are made from 100% hand milled hardwood. They will not only give you the useful beauty and pleasure now, but will certainly be an heirloom to be passed down to and from generations to come.
The wood is quarter sawn and air dried 12-14 months to optimal working moisture. This not only brings out the natural grain patterns but also adds strength. Dimensions of shown in pics. Cedar: 7 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 3 1/2, Red oak: 7 3/4 x 5 x 3 1/2,.... European oak: 6 1/2 x 4 1/4 x 4..........Silver Maple: 5 x 4 1/2 x 3. 5 x 8 x 3 1/2 is an average, but happy to build to your specifications if desired.
I use several different species of wood in each box, they complement each other greatly. or if you prefer, one species for the entire box. Some examples are: Aromatic Cedar box with a bookmatched Red Oak inset top, Black Walnut finger joints on all corners, Solid 1/2 in. thick cedar sliding removable try, Red Oak bottom all setting on a Walnut base; ,,,Red Oak box with bookmatched Maple inset top with maple finger joints, Walnut tray, Walnut bottom and oak base. You get the idea. Many Exotic woods also available on request, market prices vary.
The finish will be what ever enhances the beauty of the grain the best. Typically 4 coat of Shellac, Polyurethane or Tung oil over a very minimal stain if not tung oiled. I only use stain if it absolutely needs enhancement to make the grain "pop". I see no need in altering the beauty of natures artwork.
Every inch is processed by hand so I sometimes have a hard time letting them leave. No two are the same, they have a personality of their own. However I like to eat, drive my truck and watch t.v. and that cost money,..so my grief is short lived,
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day today and a better one tomorrow!!
