The undulating curves of the Kidney Shaped Desk are founded in the exacting proportions of Feng Shui and the Vastu Shastra of the ancient Vedic tradition in India.
Macassar Ebony veneer has been carefully cut by hand to create a spectacular waterfall effect of highly figured grain around the perimeter of the leather inset top.
The precise dimensions of this desk are founded in ancient Chinese Feng Shui texts as being conducive for attracting wealth, prosperity, nobility and integrity into one's life. The shape and proportion of the kidney shaped top is also consistent with the spiritually based sacred design system of the Vastu Shastra, which is itself derived from the Vedic tradition in India.
Inset into the back of the desk is three drawers, each of which is crafted out of solid Cherry hardwood and joined together by means of a sliding dovetail system. These drawers glide effortlessly on linear ball bearing drawer glides.
Inlaid into the underside of each of the three drawer faces are concealed finger pulls that have been crafted from solid American Black Walnut. It is significant that this holistic wood is located in a place that is frequently touched. Native American medicine women discovered through many generations of trial, error and observation that this wood has medicinal properties useful in the prevention and treatment of disease. It is believed that simply touching this wood will bring good health and well- being into one's life.
Located inside the center drawer are two pencil trays crafted from a wood called Sassafras. Centered between the two pencil trays is a small lidded box, for storing sundries such as erasers or paper clips.
The box is made of a rare sampling of solid Hawthorn wood. Hawthorn was well known to ancient Greek herbalists, and was used in Ayurvedic medicine dating back over 5000 years. Hawthorn has aroma therapeutic properties that are also reputed to be beneficial to one's health and overall sense of well-being.
The aromatic properties of the Sassafras and Hawthorn accumulate naturally inside the desk while the drawer is closed, and are released naturally each time the drawer is opened.
As an optional feature there is an available lid for the center box, which has been inlaid with the three traditional healing metals of copper, 18K gold and Sterling silver. These metals are shaped into the images of an Eagle, Turtle and the sacred Tree of Life. Collectively these images tell the aboriginal story of Creation after the Great Flood, which is a story that is remarkably similar to the flood stories told in many ancient civilizations around the world.
Custom dimensions and alternative wood finishes are available. This desk can also be configured to the specifications of each particular client.
