Kitchen Utility Table With Shelf In Native Hickory And Blackened Steel
This piece was built for a customer who wanted a piece where standing kitchen work was possible, but could also be used for seating guests with bar stools. A large shelf was created to create storage for large pots and other kitchen supplies too big for cabinets.
The sustainably harvested hickory was cut and sawn a few miles from my shop here in western Massachusetts. It is finished in several coats of a polish I make from olive oil and beeswax. The welded steel frame is blackened with a patina and then rubbed with oil.
