A gallery owner in San Francisco describes this design as "an excellent representation of modern 50's with a 21st Century twist".
The Landis Coffee Table is made of FSC certified bamboo ply. While bamboo is considered by many to be "green" because it is a grass, and not a wood, there has been a degree of controversy in recent years about using bamboo as a material related to herbicide and pesticide use, as well as questions about toxicity in the processes used to make the bamboo into plywood.
These issues are addressed by the fact that this bamboo is actually certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and not only being made of sustainable materials, but also adherent to other ecologically sound practices. For example, the glues and binders used to make the ply are non-UF, which makes this material NAUF and CARB2 (California Air Resources Board) compliant. In addition the finish used is a low-VOC linseed oil. Alternatively we can also finish in a low-VOC tung oil.
The legs are satin stainless steel.
Packaging materials are cardboard, which can be recycled. Packing peanuts, where used, are biodegradable corn starch.
The Landis Side Table shown has an egg shaped top and measures 23-1/4" x 18" x 14-3/4" high, or 16-3/4" high.
In addition to bamboo each of these tables is also available in a variety of alternative materials, including woods such as Macassar Ebony and Bleached Zebrawood (shown).
