This large porcelain bowl was inspired by the trilliums that bloom in my Vermont wildflower garden. The bowl was wheel thrown, and after trimming, I began a several day process of carving the flowers, leaves, and even a bud all around the outside top. There are no two blossoms alike, and I was careful of the overlapping detail of the leaves, flowers and negative spaces in between.
After slowly drying, it was bisqued. Then the tedious process of painting three coats of every color glaze began after making and testing all the glazes used....including the overlaps. I chose a fresh spring green glaze for the inside in order to celebrate the season as well as the foods served in it.
The bowl measures 10" across at it's broadest point, and is a bit over 5" tall. It is very generous but not bulky. Like all of my work, it is food safe. It comes double boxed and double bubbled and I can wrap the inside box if you conv me with the occasion.
