Limited Edition Beetle Kill Pine Bolt Action 30 Caliber Pen In Gun Metal Gray

Beautifully original and irresistibly fun Bolt Action pen will be hard for any hunting or target-shooting enthusiast to put down. The realistic bolt-action handle smoothly advances and retracts to securely lock the refill in place. Includes a bolt action rifle clip, a replica 30 caliber cartridge and rose gold bullet tip for added authenticity.

The mountain pine beetle has killed large numbers of the lodgepole pine trees in the northern mountains of the US state of Colorado. Chemical prevention is effective but too costly for large-scale use. If not removed the dead trees increase the incidence of wildfires, and may contribute to climate change as they decay.

Beetle kill Pine's unmistakable blue-stain color is caused by the fungus carried by the pine beetle. Mountain pine beetles affect pine trees by laying eggs under the bark. The beetles introduce blue stain fungus into the sapwood that prevents the tree from repelling and killing the attacking beetles with tree pitch flow. The fungus also blocks water and nutrient transport within the tree.

Although beetle kill has resulted in a significant amount of dead trees, there are some options for use of the trees after they are killed. This limited edition Pen is one such option, allowing us to use the wood in a special way that captures the beauty and preserves history. Note the beautiful intricate colors captured in the Pine. These colors in some ways look similar to Ivory or Antler.
