This live edge coffee table is made from a reclaimed walnut log acquired through the Kentucky Department of Highways. It has an unusual and organic shape and is packed with amazing color and character! It is an extremely thick tree slice (aka log round or cookie) and finished out around 4" thick. The wood has been air dried for over 5 years and placed into an electric kiln to kill of any bugs and bring the moisture content down. The smaller hairline looking drying checks (cracks) are only evident to the eye. The surface is as smooth as silk and finished in an oil and satin poly combo. This finishing combo protects against moisture, scratches and everyday use. There are two larger checks and one was fitted with a hand-carved wooden bowtie/inlay made out of Maple. The lighter colored bowtie gives a nice contrast and pops off of the chocolate heartwood seen in the walnut. This piece is fitted to 3 steel hairpin legs that have been clear coated for protection. This is a beautiful coffee table that would look excellent in any space and is packed with natural curiosities! Rarely are log rounds (especially in walnut) seen in this size regionally.
