Longleaf Pine Credenza

This credenza houses a large laser printer and a lateral file cabinet. It was crafted from longleaf pine and has mahogany pulls and feet. It was finished with 7 coats of General Finishes clear topcoat. The entire carcass is of solid wood and was joined together using box joints, allowing the entire piece to move together with seasonal expansion and contraction. The drawer pulls match the profile of the credenza feet, creating an interesting, contemporary design. Note the grain-matching across all surfaces, particularly the drawer fronts. In designing this piece, I enjoyed making something contemporary out of a wood that is more typically associated with a rustic or country design. It makes the piece a little whimsical or contrarian, I'm not sure which. Since those are moods I feel frequently, it could be both.
