Lyre Thumb-Sticks
A couple more examples of a Lyre Shaped "Thumb Stick" for hiking. I use a variety of hardwoods and natural wood shanks to make a comfortable and rugged hiking stick that is built to last. The thumb stick is a popular style walking stick in the UK where the user can rest their thumb in the crook of the handle for support and comfort. They can be as simple as a natural "y" on a branch or can be made in a variety of shapes. My favorite happens to be the Lyre shape but can create pretty much any style you can come up with. I typically incorporate bone, horn or other wood spacers between the shank and handle and finish each stick off with a brass ferrule on the end.
