From Zak Zaikine's "Mandala: We Can Only Make It Together" series of sculptures.
The first version of the "Mandala" is a solid cast pewter-silver which is plated in double gold and mounted on a black pewter-silver base, or a double plated bronze edition also mounted on a black pewter-silver base. The total measurements are 10 ¾" x 7" x 3." The piece is signed and dated by the artist and sells for $750.00. I also have several artist's proofs in just brushed pewter-silver castings that are available for $600.00.
"The Mandala" is a symbol of the "Circle of Unity" and/or of "The Whole." In this piece, as in all of life, the energy of the female and male are separate and yet honored; wholly integrated and balanced within the self and within the world. Bailey Cunningham writes: "Awareness of the mandala may have the potential of changing how we see ourselves, our planet, and perhaps even our own life purposes".
My goal is that viewers of "The Mandala" will contemplate the female and the male within themselves, and reflect on the need for both sides, in order to have balance and harmony in their own lives. It will be displayed in a public location where people are allowed to touch the sculpture as they gaze and meditate on it.
I feel that there is a great need to balance the dualities within ourselves, in order to have balance within the larger world. "The Mandala" is a symbol of this integration. My goal is for the mandala to represent, as Carl Jung said "a safe refuge of inner reconciliation and wholeness".
