Each example is a one-of-a-kind hand turned manzanita burl bowl or vessel. Each is an original design that can never be repeated given the variations in wood, hand techniques, and just plain artistic license and inspirations. These manzanita burl turnings are numbered and hand signed (burned) and are the first offerings by Master Craftsman Eric M. Saperstein of this nature.
Eric is the master of Artisans of the Valley, a unique shop offering original design and reproduction period and modern furniture, woodcarving, sculpture, and restoration/conservation services.
We rarely maintain an inventory; most of our work is by commission or contracted restoration. Once and a while the inspiration to be creative kicks in and one of us produces a few unique pieces. These bowls, especially manzanita, have become a fascination – well perhaps an obsession in our shop. We are now beginning to offer these amazing anomalies of nature as our private collection is exceeding our capacity!
All pieces are sold as is, and will perhaps change over time. Manzanita is unique; it is extremely vibrant and solid yet prone to random changes in stability. There is nothing as vibrant in color and texture as manzanita. It is impossible to ever replicate any given turning.
These bowls will flex and twist and possibly crack as they settle in. For this we state upfront, it is the natural of this interesting material so please be aware before you make your purchase! We will indicate if the piece has been dried, or if it is sold a bit wet to allow the buyer to experience the final evolution of the bowl.
How would you get one custom made - well - we will have some in inventory or we'll create one for you. We'll run the sale through CustomMade's proposal process once you decide which one you like!
