The young guy is getting engaged to marry his girl friend who is a serious Harry Potterphile. He wants a golden snitch to present his engagement ring in. So I take two hardwood balls 3 inches across, hollow out the interior and install the universal type ring holder, and I sculpt the exterior, coat it in gesso, then red bole clay, then i water gild it with 23 carat gold leaf, C'est tout!
Oh! and I concealed numerous neodynium magnets around the edges to draw it shut magnetically.
Oh! And also, instead of splitting it straight across, I made the opening seam follow the contour of one of the sculpted lines, in order to conceal the seam quite well.
