"Mars" is out of this world. At first glance you cannot help but notice the wood figuring of the curly cherry - it is quite striking and really sets this piece apart from any other table like it...And to be honest, when I picked up these cherry slabs for the table, I had no idea that they would be curly - what a surprise!

This was my first build inspired by mid-century modern design, and I could not be more happy with the result. The super wide 90" x 48" table top is made with only three slabs. The seams between the slabs were beautifully blended together by including the natural gradient of the sapwood (have you noticed that theme in my work yet?) Additionally, the entire table, including the legs, was made from the offcuts of those same 3 slabs of wood, which gives the table perfect color and figure matching throughout.

Since the client wanted an ultra-thin look to the table top, I added a shallow chamfer along the outside edges of the underside. This gave us a 1" thick look, with the stability of a 1-1/2" thick table. Any thinner than 1-1/2" thick overall and I presume the table would have been horribly unstable.

The table was not set in these photos, but you could easily squeeze in up to nine or ten guests using the ends.

Each piece is finished with a protective oil and hardwax blend for a beautiful and warm matte finish. Finish will not water-spot.
