Massive Farm Table Made Of Reclaimed Heart Pine With Steel Bands And Hand Wrought Copper Nails

There two styles. The Long Table and the Picnic Table. At least as of this writing.

This long table has three 11 Inch columns and is braced by four cross beams secured with custom made steel brackets. It's 16 feet long, 54 inches wide and 52 inches tall. The steel bands hide the hardware that secures the top and are held in place by hand wrought copper nails.

The really cool part is I make the nails myself from recycled copper. I use discarded cords, christmas light cords, power cords and whatever I can find that's copper, melt it down in a furnace and pour it into steel molds I made specifically for this purpose. After the copper cools, I heat it back up again and hand forge each nail to shape taking care to create a very specific Craftsman type nail head.

And then there's the picnic table. This one has a 8 1/2 foot square top and including the floating bench is 12 feet square. The center column is 24 inches square and custom brackets secure the timbers in place.

I use a shellac finish, in this case 12 coats sprayed on and sanded between each coat. Then finished with two coats of hand rubbed paste wax. It's a durable finish unless you happen to practice your clog dancing on table tops. In that case I recommend you buy your table someplace else.

These designs can be made in more reasonable sizes, the wood used is always up for discussion, and the hardware doesn't have to include copper nails. But if you want to be friends, you'll ask for the copper nails.

Thanks for your consideration. Questions are always welcome.
