Mid Century Modern Coffee Table With Glass Top, Solid Wood, Black Walnut.

This coffee table is inspired by Paul Laszlo magazine coffee table for Brown and Saltman from the 1950s

I keep thinking of a comets two tails when I was making this table. There's a gas trail and dust trail on a comet that creates the boomarang look and to me, that's what designers like Paul were trying to achive with this shape. Made from black walnut thats been top coated with hand rubbed lacquer for that high gloss finish. I'm not sure if any of the original coffee tables where made from walnut but I have seen them in Mahogany and Maple or Beech. I did see one in Roger Sterlings office in the first three seasons of Mad Man. This table is 15" high 20" deep and 46" long but yours can be any size and in any species.

About this furniture, all the furniture in my shop has been built by myself 100% from scratch and in some cases, using machines from the 1950s. All of my furniture's Catalyzed Lacquer clear coat is sanded between every coat until I have the desired build for that piece. Once the Lacquer has cured its then color sanded (the English call it "Mopping") in steps starting with 1000 grit and ending in 2500 before it's ready to be buffed. The compounding (Buffing) also has three stages before the final polishing. The time involved to build these one of a kind tables is reflected in the price.
