"CASS LAKE, Minn. (Oct. 22, 2014) – The Chippewa National Forest and partner Choose Outdoors have announced the winner of the 2014 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree art contest. Local artist Paula Jensen from Longville, Minnesota captured first place with her sculpture entitled "Migizi Manidoo," or "Eagle Spirit." The nine-foot sculpture features an eagle in flight, and captures the heritage and resource themes of the Chippewa National Forest.
Eagle Art Contest WinnerJensen says the sculpture took over a year to complete, and was a labor of love. "Natural influences can be seen in all of my metal art. I find peace living here in the northwoods and in turn that influences my work. I feel blessed to be a caretaker of the land and feel very much at home in nature. I am excited to be a part of the 2014 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree event."
Jensen and her husband plan to display the sculpture at a number of local U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree events as the Tree travels through area communities. Jensen's artwork will also be highlighted (via photographs) along the Tree's route to Washington, D.C. and at the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree lighting ceremony."
