I typically get my ideas for projects by looking at what others have done and then adapt to suit my needs. But this design was different - I had a nice piece of walnut and didn't know what to do with it. I just started working with the piece, removing material in various ways until it started to take shape. I really had no idea where it was going.
It starts with 8/4 walnut, and through various stages of removing material, it becomes a modern serving board. This is a single piece of wood - no joinery, no glue, no fasteners.
The appearance is primarily driven by the wood itself, so with walnut, there will generally be a mixture of heartwood (the dark brown color) and sapwood (the lighter colors). If you have a preference for more or less sapwood, I can do my best to accommodate during wood selection.
Two basic sizes (approximate) are available: 12x12 for $75.00 or 12x18 for $100.
Finished with butcher block oil - food safe!
It can take anywhere from 1 - 3 weeks to complete.
