Bear Symbology
Bears can be seen on totem poles, drawings, masks, and jewelry among many other pieces of Native American art. The bear is thought to be the master of the forest, thus explaining one of the many reasons they are respected as they shared the same land with the Indian tribes.
The “Sign of the Bear”, from August 22nd to September 21st is the modern western astrology sign of Virgo, now commonly from August 23rd/24th to September 22nd/23rd and represents another strong timeless parallel to the bear’s symbolism on history and it’s ability to endure and be current today.
When bears are referred to by Native Americans, they also represent several other characteristics such as: protection, childbearing, motherhood, freedom, discernment, courage, power, and unpredictability.
