New Orleans Inspired Bed Made From Cypress Doors And Reclaimed Wood

This handmade queen bed is crafted solely from reclaimed antique wood found only in New Orleans. In making this bed I wanted to preserve the history and beauty of these old pieces. On the side rails and posts, I've embraced the termite holes, accentuated the cracks, and left any old nails still in the wood.

The headboard and footboard are made from two cypress doors salvaged from a flooded home in the 7th Ward neighborhood of New Orleans. Most of this area took on nearly 5-7 feet of water and the home these doors were in remained submerged for almost two weeks.

They've been dried, refinished, sanded and polished, but still have a distressed look that only Hurricane Katrina could do. The panels of the headboard have been inlaid with a decorative Victorian ceiling tin pressed in Laredo, Texas during the 1920s. The blue and gold tones of these tins pair beautifully with the dark rich colors of the wood. The other pieces of wood are pine and were removed from other historic homes destroyed during Katrina.

Each bed is custom made to order. I will work with you to determine the appropriate size, color, and pattern of each piece. I also carry a variety of different tin patterns. All beds require assembly and come with the hardware needed.
