One of my most popular hummingbird shots...This beautiful photograph is the best of about a thousand shots I took of a mother hummingbird and her family. This breathtaking moment captures an Anna's hummingbird returning to her nest. Perfect backlighting illuminates her wings creating a surreal, translucent look. The two baby chicks with beaks open eagerly anticipate their next meal. The following day after I shot this photo both babies fledged and the nest was abandoned along with my hopes of capturing any more shots. I took this photo in April of 2011 in Southern California.
