Opal Ring With Surfer's Wave

I live near the ocean and most of my work is influenced by the sea - the objects I find on the beach, the people who live from it and stories that tell of it's power. I never tire of watching the waves. Each is unique, influenced by the wind and weather. The sun shines on their crest and there is a mystery of another world just beneath their surface.

I used an Australian Boulder Opal to represent the sea, full of mystery. I reticulated silver to form little peaks and shimmers in the form of the wave crest. There is some space between the two and layering of metals in my attempt to show the movement and distinction between the crest and the swell.

Materials : sterling silver, fine silver, Australian Boulder Opal
Method : reticulation, bezel setting, soldering
Size : US Size 9, opal 15x5mm
