This was a fireplace kit that was purchased before we were hired to install it. There were a number of design problems with the kit that I had concerns about. As I shared these with the clients it was determined that some adjustments would be made as it was constructed, and others would be addressed if and when the need arose. As it turned out, numerous modifications were needed to allow the fireplace to function as it should. Ultimately we installed one of our Rumford fireboxes inside the existing structure to eliminate fracturing of the exterior stone work from expansion problems. When it was all said and done, the client was very pleased with the fireplace, but wished they had allowed us to build it without the kit. It would have saved them many thousands of dollars.
