Pandora Cabinet

The Pandora Chest defies typical categorization. It would be a stunning "statement" piece in a foyer for storing hats and gloves, or for additional storage in a dining room corner nook, or as a liquor cabinet. The small footprint of the Pandora Chest allows it to accommodate a variety of spaces, and the tall design offers a refreshing variation from a more common low, broad buffet or credenza.

What is especially intriguing about the design is the mysterious nature of its function. Most cabinets simply have two or four symmetrical doors that one intuitively knows will open from the center via pulls or knobs, hinged on the opposite sides. This cabinet causes the user to wonder, "how does this thing open?" Then she is compelled by curiosity to touch it, to solve the mystery. The gleaming central field of gold leaf marks the space from which each compartment is opened. The upper left and lower right sections are drawers, and the lower left and upper right sections are doors, with adjustable shelves inside. Drawer slides are high quality, with smooth action and a pleasant self-closing mechanism. Hinges are low profile barrel hinges.

Custom variations on the overall design are also available.
