Parque-Tree Table

The idea behind this table is to explore the old world technique of parquetry by extending it beyond its typically decorative application. I am drawn into the ironies of this piece, from fir tree to dimensional framing lumber, which then gets cut into precise squares and triangles produced by parquetry. The project then becomes organic again by shaping the slab, creating a kind of simulacrum of a tree – a parquet-tree.
