Paschal Candle Stand

Red Oak, White Oak, Sycamore; Oil/Polyurethane/Beeswax Finish *** This Paschal Candle Stand was commissioned to be used during Church services on Easter and other special occasions. A year before the work came to me I had the opportunity to salvage a dying sycamore tree that had to be removed from the Church property. I used this piece as an opportunity to give back to the Church by making the carved panels from that same sycamore wood. The four hand-carved panels show the Cross, the Chi Rho symbol, and a Chalice and Host. *** I have a particular affinity for this type of work, and I enjoy doing the research and working with pastors and congregations to design the perfect religious furniture for their individual Sanctuaries. If possible I visit the Church where the piece will reside (or, if distance is prohibitive, I review photographs of the sanctuary and other nearby pieces of religious furnishings, such as the alter, lecterns, and baptismal font), and then I provide a selection of computer drawn 3-dimensional renderings of what the piece might look like so we can all visualize it in the environment. This begins the iterative give and take design process, resulting in delivery of just the right liturgical work! *** I invite you to contact me about designing and making fine and sensitive liturgical furniture for your Church. *** Juried Virginia Professional Artisan: Artisans Center of Virginia, Juried Member: Rappahannock Art League, Member: The Furniture Society
