The client enjoyed numerous photos of her children, but she wanted something unique. The commissioned painting was created from one black and white photographic reference. Many times someone is off in a group painting; eyes closed, mouth twisted, etc. But, this was one of those great photos in which everyone looked terrific. It was the client's favorite photo of all three, plus their dog. I used the grid method, something I do not do too often. Why? Because I prefer using plum lines and small marks to make a face. But, all heads were different sizes, plus the hair and their proximity to each other would be tricky using plum lines.
I used blacks, whites and blue-gray pastel sticks on Mi-Tientes pastel paper.
