Pickling Crock Weighted Stone
This Pickling Crock Weighted Stone is a custom made piece of working art used in conjunction with a ceramic pickling crock ( not included) to hold the food below the fermenting liquid's surface.
This pickling stone is a artistic cousin to the Dolma Stones I had made in the past.
It was co-designed by a lady in California and my self to fit into her existing pickling crock. She wanted it to represent the various foods that she was pickling. So I made low profile relief replications of Olives, Asparagus, Cabbage and Cucumbers (for pickles). Our design has a very strong Art Deco look.
All of the various components of this pickling stone were modeled by hand using a white earthenware clay. The 4 coats of Old Copper glaze were applied with a brush. The stone was fired twice in my electric kiln to a temperature of 1,830 degrees Fahrenheit. This stone is 10 1/2 inches in diameter. It weighed 4 1/2 pounds.
The proud new owner stores her "stone" by hanging it on a wall in her home as a piece of ceramic art, when it is not "working" in her pickling crock.
I can make future weighted stones to fit into any size pickling crock.
Decorations can be modified to suit the customer's wishes.
