I began by drawing a sketch based on the customer's request for a raccoon looking at a seahorse under water. Using a 16" x 20" stretch canvas that I covered with a thin wash of paint I the began to draw the design. Using oil paints I began developing the background and water areas. Working in layers to add the details. Each layer required a 3 - 5 day drying time. Using a thin brush the blades of grass and fur were added. Once the seahorse was completely dry I added glazes of paint to create water. Working dark to light the highlights were added last. After an extended drying time a protective finish was added.
