A client asked me to create urns for her parents remains. We had a long talk about their interests and passions. I decorated the side panels of each urn with text and images that reflected this conversation.
Hand built with stoneware clay, the urns are rectangular in shape with flat bases and lids. The lid drops into the vessel, and was later sealed with a bead of glue. The embellishment on each face was carved into the unfired clay and then stained with a black glaze to highlight the detail. The inside of each piece was glazed in each parent's favorite color, with the matte green on the outside tying the set together.
