KH Webb designed a contemporary home for this client and it was named 'Mountain Living' magazine's "Home of the Year" in 2010. I created a very large bar and countertop from Claro Walnut slabs, a room-sized wine rack, and three tables for this home: "Elemental Suspension", "Metal Chops Walnut", and this console table which adorns the main family room.
The client's contemporary tastes were satiated by the contrast of the organic character of the natural edge against the clean, geometrical shape. The table accentuates the vibrant colors of the well-selected, modern painting that hangs above it.
The clean rectangular outline of this table is decorated with the 'waterfall' effect: the grain cascades over the top and flows down the sides. It looks as if the slab was simply folded with no interruptions.
The joinery is all internal, utilizing a traditional Japanese method and an innovation of my own. The miter joint at the natural front edge had to be hand-carved to adjust for the two uneven surfaces coming together.
