This pendant was a commission. The client already had two of my lamps and wanted something special for the guest bathroom. He wanted something hand crafted and unique with a refined industrial flavor. After a few weeks of drawings and samples, this is what we created.
I especially love the construction of this piece. Four flat sheets of copper were hammered into the four round body pieces. The copper came from some discarded roofing I found. The hammering helped form the bodies and the texture was very purposely applied. Holes were then punched, in a random pattern, to mimic a starry night. They were then oxidized, hand rubbed ,and given three coats of lacquer. The four half-round forms are fastened together with short button head allen screws. The hammered body was hung independent of the lights. This was achieved with four, hammered flat, copper wires that hang the body from a disc at the top of the center tube. The dangles are hung from two crossing pieces of light green, translucent, acrylic. The edges have been flamed and polished. These hung from the bottom of the center tube. The acrylic was drilled for hand made brass hooks that would hang the dangles. We hung them from hooks because the client wanted to be able to reorganize them from time to time. This was fun to build.
