Creating a one of a kind headboard is a joy for me. For this project, I start with the right surface: in this example, I used a queen headboard that I found at a local thrift store. I painted it and then worked with my client to choose china in the colors she liked best. I then begin cutting the china and creating the pattern. When the client and I are satisfied with the design, I glue it down, wait for it to dry and then grout the project. Once that dries, I use a sealer to make it easy to wipe down and keep it clean over the years. I spend quite a while simply polishing the details, touching up the paint and obsessing that the piece is perfect. These headboards have slots for regular bed frames, but they look great if you mount them to the wall at a slightly higher height so you can see all of the pattern. I can make various styles, but this one was one the client and I developed to fit with her "Banana Republic meets Anthropologie" style. I used recycled packing materials (also green) from my local furniture store to package it and I shipped it via Greyhound express and my client picked it up from her local bus station. It arrived safe and sound.
