Queue de Boeuf is a mosaic wall hanging. I used the traditional Greek style of laying the tesserae (pieces of glass) following the line of the image and working from there. The tesserae are hand cut art glass using opaque and iridescent glass. The areas of gold are created by layering clear glass tesserae over gold foil.
The design is reminiscent of an illuminated medieval manuscript in the way that the central images are bordered by graphic designs and floral motifs. Glass nuggets were used to give the piece depth.
The title of this piece comes from a French children's counting rhyme. The queue or tail is the metal pull ring in the lions mouth. A little whimsy to introduce the unexpected.
