A friend gave me a walnut tree from his back yard. Another friend, with a sawmill, cut it into boards. I had to drive back roads to get the tree to the sawmill because my little red pickup was so loaded down. I then air dried the boards in my basement for close to two years before I could use them. Several beautiful projects came out of those boards including this headboard. The headboard consists of four raised panels with coped stiles and rails. The assembled panel is attached to the side rails with deep mortise and tenon joints. All of the joints are pegged with visible black walnut dowels. The top rail is black walnut with decorative roman ogee molding underneath. New commissions would be of purchased materials as none of the original tree remains.
