Re-Make Of Cherry Desk/Hutch

This Cherry Desk/Hutch presented many challenges with the requests by the customer: (1) correct the interference of the opening of the upper glass doors & the opening of the desk top; (2) remove & replace a brass piano/continuous hinge that was showing with mortised butler tray style hinges; (3) add small cubby storage to the desk section; (4) add additional small drawer storage;
(5) add a new top to the bottom section.

All of these changes needed to be accomplished without making the total height of the complete cabinet too tall. It finally required the craftsman to completely disassemble the entire lower cabinet to accomplish the design changes, and to make a totally new cherry middle section with 5 drawers. Additionally, 2 new cubby-style sections were constructed and added to the desk section.

Any time a re-make of a cabinet is undertaken, the challenge of the "domino effect" is present and can frustrate/confound both the craftsman & customer; as one design element is changed, it naturally affects other design elements, both in dimensions & aesthetics. Some times the changes are quite obvious, but more times than not, the changes are subtle & only present themselves as the changes to the cabinet are made. This proved to be the case with the Re-make of the Cherry Desk/Hutch, but fortunately, all changes were made to the customer's satisfaction.
