Reclaimed Pine End Table With Quilted Mahogany Top

This piece was designed for a young woman that loved the feel and look of the old wood but wanted to have an updated approach. The pine was procured from an building in bolivar tn. that was built in 1887. I used through mortise & tenon construction as well as stop mortise & tenon on the aprons. I offset the aprons to draw the your eye to the floating top that is delicately suspended above the tapered and splayed legs. The legs taper from 1&1/4" to a slimming 3/4" and is also splayed at a 2 degree angle to give the table a very light feel. The top I used a miter spline'd together with maple that I left exposed and proud of the top. I inlaid a beautifully figured piece of quilted mahogany to balance the lighter colored wood. I used a 5 coat oil and urethane to seal and protect the wood but let the natural luster of the wood to show.
