This was a commissioned piece. The client wanted a Island that they could move from place to place in their kitchen, the top also had to be able to handle food prep. There are two drawers, one which holds a compost bin, the other side has a sliding silverware holder and a deep bin for the rest of their cooking utensils.
The top is made of scrap Eastern Hardrock Maple turned on edge so they can use it as a cutting board. The sides and drawer faces are African Mahogany that I purchased as firewood. The legs and spreaders for the shelves are made from old barn wood, and are full of worm holes! The drawer handles are made from solid Redwood chunks.
The top is finished with butcher block oil, while the whole underside is finished with a durable marine finish.
