Red Satin And Lace Dress

When I was preparing to build my wedding dress, I decided I should give it a practice run with similar fabrics to help me figure out how the pattern should be drawn. The result was this little red dress!

Although this dress was intended to work as a practice exercise, I've gotten great use out of it as a special occasion dress. I've used it for Holiday dinners, dates with my husband, and going out for a drink at a nice bar.

The body of the dress is made from a heavy satin that I've worked with before. I love this type of satin because it falls so nicely with the perfect amount of weight to give the garment shape, but not overpower the dainty look I tried to achieve.

The sleeves are made from a stretch lace, as is the embellishment around the neck.

The back of the dress drops down to reveal the back, but still covers everything that needs to be covered.

This dress requires a lot of attention to look pristine (ironing, special washing instructions) but it is well worth the care.
