My brother in law found this redwood root burl on his property up in Humbolt County a few years back and last time I was up there I noticed he hadn't done anything with it so as I was leaving he gave it to me.
It took a lot of pondering as to what to do with it so it sat in my shop for several months before I decided to cut into it to see what was inside. I was pleased to say the least. The wood is light as it is brilliant.
I book-matched a few pieces for top and bottom, front and rear and both sides. After a fair amount of fitting and sanding I put three coats of clear semi-gloss poly in it that just set it on fire! I'm thinking it would make a fine urn now that I look at it.
