Commissioned to make a fall leaf desk in the side of a rhinoceros sculpture.
Frame is ribs and struts covered in 1/8 inch plywood bender board. Ebony tiles glued to comprise the outside skin. Horns, ears toes are cast bronze with patina. Interior is amboyna burl with ebony trimmed maple dovetail drawers. Drawer pulls are silver rhino heads.
This is art for looking at and thinking about. The owners treats it like that. The craftsmanship is flawless.
I included an image I made of Durer's 1515AD famous woodcut that I sculpted and cast in bronze. I would love to make a rhinoceros desk of this piece.
I have figured out the engineering to make any reasonable critter as a desk. Also human figures make good functional bureaus. (see man with the yellow briefcase)
