Faceted Labradorite Beads
Strung on Quality 49 Strand, 26lbs., Steel Cable
Dipnetting salmon is a yearly tradition for many Alaskans. My family goes to Chitina, on the Copper River, right next to Wrangell Saint Elias National Park. The glacial fed river is huge, fast, freezing, and opaque with silt. Standing for hours, holding a twenty foot long dipnet in an eddy, or sweeping it in the main current, is exhausting, but the view is amazing and every so often there is an adrenaline inducing bump at the end of your net. I look forward to it all year long.
For my dipnetting necklace I used two strands of faceted labradorite beads. They have a nice sparkle and are reminiscent of the silty gray river. The pendant shows two reds on the bank next to a dipnet.
