"A Timeless Day in the Sedona" was my first public commission for the city of Sedona, AZ. It was unveiled the fall of 2009. 400 square feet depicting the endless beauty of the local area. It is a visual panorama of the native plant and wildlife, as well as the unique red rock formations. A beautiful country, and was the backdrop to many wild west movies, which are represented in the B&W frames in the filmstrip winding through the rocks.
The beauty is in the details.....there are many hidden elements through out the mural as well as extreme detail. Search along the painting for hidden kokopellis & petroglyphs; the detail of the butterflies, and small critters is humbling on the scale of the whole.
The trees growing in front of the mural, have random lizards and petroglyphs painted on them and will move in height as the tree grows. Intended to be educational and stylized with bold brush strokes and colors.
A Timeless Day in Sedona was completed in the span of 16 months. After living in Sedona for 7 years, and mountain biking or hiking 80% of the trails and land of the area, my heart and soul went into this commission. I love the lands of sedona, exploring the grounds was very humbling and spiritually enlightening.
I love painting on a large scale, and am interested in helping bring more public murals to a community as well as involve the community in a creative project.
