The form for this piece was developed using custom computer codes that we wrote to describe the geometry. We then translated these shapes into bending actions for a robot and a bending tool we built. The bent rods were manually welded together; no jigs were required because each part only fit against its neighbors in a specific way. Over kilometer of steel rods were uniquely bent to produce this work.
