Searchlight Lamp

This project came to me from a regular client. He and his wife have 5 of my lights now. He had an old ships search/signal light in his closet and decided he wanted it made into a lamp that could be taken outside and used as a signal light from his waterfront cabin in Canada.

First, I had to repair the searchlight to get it working. Then I had to come up with a design that would allow it to be removed from the base and hand carried outside. Basically, I purchased some heavy duty chrome (clients choice) curtain rods to use as the legs. The top and bottom caps are Paperstone. Te wood base is spalted poplar. It is loaded with lead shot to give it more weight. The top cap has a hole for the yoke mount to slip in and out of as needed. I put two switches on the cord. One is an on/off switch that can be used for signaling and the other is a custom, full range, dimmer for use in the house. I had fun building this lamp and the client loved it. He had his searchlight professionally polished to a high shine. I don't know how much he paid for the light and the polishing. My price to make this lamp includes an estimate for the searchlight at $400.

Lamp dimensions are 60" tall x 14" diameter. The materials are copper, brass, Paperstone, and spalted poplar
