Shrine Maidens-Acrylic On Illustration Board, Unframed

18.5x8.5"

the shrine maidens was inspired by ancient greek and roman girls who were similar to catholic nuns, and served the shrines or temples of the goddesses. thus the vaguely Grecian column in the background. the painting is certainly an abstracted, simplified version of the women and architecture, the focus being on the flowing forms and the way the black outlines tie into the black hair and eyes of the women. it is painted in acrylic on mat board, and is unframed, so can be finished to suit any décor. the style and muted colours are suitable for many décor styles, as well, yet the piece is far from generic. its personality, as well as that of the women, and their relationship, are subdued. restrained. flowers blooming on cold marble.
