This commission was made to be a present from a daughter to her parents to mark their 50 year anniversary. My client and her husband both worked together to help choose the right color scheme for this special piece.
The Sirin, based on the Greek legend of the Sirens, is a bird in Russian folklore. Unlike a Siren, the Sirin represents joy and happiness, and lives in Paradise.
People believed only really happy people could hear a Sirin, while only very few could see one because she is as fast and difficult to catch as human happiness.
This item is hand painted with fabric dyes. They set by professional steaming process, so the silk dye bonds with silk at the molecular level. The colors are permanent.
The edges of this work are looped in order to easier hang it using two wooden dowels as it is not a mounted piece.
