Here is a slab walnut coffee table I built. The table is made from one big 2 inch thick slab of walnut. I inlayed maple bowties in the top to help stabilize a couple of cracks and for the decorative effect it adds. The base is also made from solid walnut and has walnut burl veneered panels on the ends. The top is finished with shellac and has been rubbed out to an incredible sheen.
The great thing about tables like this is that it really does make the piece of wood the star of the show. You could easily have a table like this made with any kind of wood you like. I would also be happy to provide you with my suppliers' information so that you can go shop for your own unique piece of wood (over the internet of course) and once you have it picked out I can make your table.
