I recently acquired some beautiful Ethiopian opal gems and the color and flash are truly outstanding. Every tiny turn of a bead yields opalescent flashes of the rainbow, marking these opals as precious opals. As I was gazing at these stones, I became inspired by some beautiful blue and green flashes and thought to combine those watery colors with the warm tones of the opals. A gradient color change from darker to lighter colors (trendily known as "ombre" right now) seemed a fitting design.
I first created the fine(.999) and sterling silver(.925) earrings by hand, carefully wrapping tiny white, freshwater seed pearls along the bottom. Then after securing beautifully cut azure blue apatite tear drops in the center of the earrings, I hand-linked gemstones of azure blue apatite, sea foam green chrysoprase, and glittering golden quartz using sterling silver and linked those spectacular opals on 14 karat gold filled headpins. Then more of those tiny white freshwater seed pearls were linked at the very top to handmade sterling silver ear hooks. These earrings are shoulder-sweepers, total length is 4-3/16 inches (or 10.636 cm).
