This piece was designed and built in two pieces for ease of cleaning the inside and top of the platform sole. A nylon-rope-wrapped heel serves as a scratching post for the kitties.

The cats tend to lounge on the top surfaces of the sole and heel, but they bop in and out of the circular cut-outs on the sole, as well as the framed opening at the back of the sole. The entire piece measures 24″ wide by 58″ from front to back, and 50″ tall at its tallest point (from the bottom of the heel to to the top of the back strap.

It's made from wood, scored masonite, carpeting, nylon rope, and microfiber fabric.

I created this piece as part of a series of prototypes to test out how my cats would react to a giant shoe. The inspiration was the nursery rhyme about "the old lady who lived in a shoe." I wanted to take something iconic like a woman's platform stiletto and make it something big and playful for cats.

It was fun to build, but very complex, too. aside from the heel, each piece is comprised of complex curves and shapes.
