Our customer wanted glass tiles that matched the view of her backyard as seen from the kitchen. She sent us photos of her garden, and specified particular additions (e.g., dots of pink and yellow for flowers). She wanted six tiles, with three mirroring the first three.
To create these tiles, I hand painted the trees onto glass using special paint and fully fused the images into the glass. Tiny bits of green glass, in several shades, create the look of leaves, while lines of glass (stringer) below give the feel of grass.
I fused each white tile onto clear glass to create two-layered tiles, which are strong and durable. When set side by side, the tree images create the look of arches, which was a particularly cool surprise.
Each tile is 4" x 4", and was installed amid 4" white ceramic tiles. Fused glass tiles create an exciting, unique look to a kitchen, whether they are mixed in with ceramic tiles or not.
These hand-painted custom tiles cost $30 - 35 each, depending on the quantity and colors used.
